Presentation :
A modern and fun museography space, the City of Prehistory spans 350,000 years of Prehistory and shows authentic objects. Completely renovated in 2014, it explains the Prehistory of Western Europe. Game tables, fire demonstrations, flint cutting, and other prehistoric events (propellant fire, etc.) offer a new look at the exhibited vestiges from excavations.
Since its creation, the museum has developed a significant scientific research activity around its collections from more than 1,500 sites in the Ardèche and northern Gard. In addition to the million archaeological objects identified, the City of Prehistory has reference collections : a bone library and a stone library mainly composed of flint.
The City of Prehistory is also a documentation center specializing in Prehistory, paleontology and karstology. It welcomes many researchers and students by providing the collections and the tools necessary for their study. Finally, through the activity of its scientific staff, the museum is an active member or coordinator of research programs. Its entire network makes it a reference for research on the Prehistory of the Ardèche.
